Nilla Cakesters

I'm a sucker for Nabisco. Why???...I guess because I get to see when all the new products come before they actually hit the shelves for consumers to buy. My company is coming out with some good ones lately. Here is one to try. I got a box last week and they were very tasty. While at the store, pick one up and give them a try. On a 5 star rating system, I give em' 4 1/2 stars.

Some Tips on Filling Up the Tank

Every time I go to fill up the gas tank these days, I pay at least a few pennies more to get the same old gas. I don't know about you guys but I'm getting to where I have to decide whether I want to spend the money to drive places. I thought about it yesterday as I was going to return something at Target for the 3rd time. I might as well of just thrown my $10 away that it took in gas to get there to return my $4.99 item.

One of my friends emailed these tips to me the other day and I thought maybe some of these will help. Maybe you can try some out. Let me know if they work. After all, anything is worth a try.

1. Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the
ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not
exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

2. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the
pumps.

3. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three(3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping
on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your
money.

4. One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline
evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation.

5. Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the
storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely
the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and
you might pick up some of the dirt that t normally settles on the
bottom.

Manwich or Seasoning Packet?

We had sloppy Joes last night and they were, "SLOPPY."

Growing up, my family always made sloppy joes with the seasoning packet. While in Arizona last month, my mother made them with Manwich. Suddenly one less step to one of my favorite dinners. I found out what I was missing out on as a child.

Are you a Manwich or make it from scratch with a seasoning packet and tomato paste kind of person?

Egg Rolls and Fried Rice

My mother in law gave me these yummy recipes. Here is for you all to try!

Egg Rolls

Egg roll wrappers
1 lb. ground sausage(cooked)
1 cup onion cut into small pieces
1/4 head of cabbage cut into small pieces
1 cup shredded carrots
salt and pepper to taste
soy sauce to taste

Saute cabbage and onion in a little bit of oil. Remove from heat, mix the rest of ingredients except wrappers. Wrap some of the mixture into wrappers. Roll up wrappers and paste closed by putting your finger into a bowl of cold water and running it across the edge of the wrapper to seal closed. Fry into an inch of oil. Turn and fry onto the other side. Serve with sweet and sour and soy sauce.

Fried Rice

4 strips cooked and cut up into small pieces bacon
1/4 of a head of cabbage cut into small pieces
1 cup onion cut into small pieces
2 cups cooked rice
1 cup frozen peas and carrots
6 eggs scrambled and cooked
Soy sauce to taste
salt and pepper to taste

Make rice, set aside. Cook bacon into pan, remove bacon but not the grease. Scramble eggs into the grease. Add the onion and cabbage. Saute for a few minutes. Add frozen veggies. Last add soy sauce , salt and pepper, cooked rice and bacon and heat all together until cooked through.

Say Good Bye

Well, I'm here to bring the bad news. It seems like just when Nabisco ropes me into one of their products, they discontinue it. They did it again with Peanut Butter Oreos. Peanut Butter oreos are offically gone through the Salt Lake City warehouse. That means when they are gone in the stores, they are gone for good. So, buy as many packages as you can to be able to enjoy them for as long as you can.

I'm not a store bought cookie fan, but these are ones I really do like. What are your favorite cookies?

Finally...a use for Pennies

Well folks, I found a use for my unwanted pennies. Today the girls and I went to the mall and of course the dumb fifty cent rides always catch Haley's eye before I can distract her away from them. Well today, I had to break down into the lovely wallet to find the big silver coins to waste on the lovely ice cream truck.

After I had Haley coming back the second time, I told her that there were no more and that is when the drama started. Finally, I pulled out the old copper coin and to my surprise, she accepted it with a smile on her face. Mean mom, I know. Hey, it worked. Even though the ride didn't work, she was excited to put that old copper coin in that flashing ice cream truck. I saved forty nine cents for that ride.

As we were leaving, she spotted the fountain with all the coins in there and we used up the rest of what I had copper in my wallet. Well, until I get a few more pennies saved up, we'll wait to do the mall.
